Step 1: Layout, Size & Condition

  1.

Do you prefer a classic layout or open floorplan?

A classic layout typically has defined rooms for each purpose - i.e. formal living room, dining room, maids room, etc. Open floorplan often consists of a "great room" which can be used for living/dining, etc.

  2. Would you consider a home that needs a major renovation if it were a good deal?

  3. How much renovation would you be willing to do?

  4. Do you prefer a formal dining room or open dining area?

  5. How important is having lots of closet space/storage?

  6. How important is having space for a home office?

  7. How important is having an eat in kitchen?

  8.

How important is having a bathroom in the master bedroom?

Also called an "en suite" master bath.

  9. Do you like to entertain?

  10. Do you often have out of town guests stay with you?

  11. Do you or anyone in your family work from home?

  12. Who will be occupying the home?

  13. What is your minimum number of bedrooms?

  14. What is your minimum number of bathrooms?

  15.

What is the minimum square footage you would consider?

Square footage, while an indicator of overall size, is often a rough estimate when advertised in a listing. More important to raw square footage is room size and layout, which is often a better indicator of usable space.
